Xiaoli Fan

COVID-19 and changing food consumption in China

Xiaoli Fan is an assistant professor in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology at the University of Alberta. She earned her PhD from Cornell University and bachelors and master’s degrees from Wuhan University in China. She also has research experience with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Her research interests include food and agri-business management, consumer demand, pest and pesticide management, and anti-microbial use and anti-microbial resistance.

Sandeep Mohapatra

The Gender-Differentiated Economic Impact of a Pandemic in Developing Countries: Lessons for COVID-19 preparedness from the Ebola Outbreak

Sandeep Mohapatra is an Associate Professor in the department of resource economics and environmental sociology (REES), University of Alberta. Sandeep is an applied econometrician and studies economic development and environmental policy challenges in both developed and developing countries. In developed countries his interests include studying trade-offs in environmental and economic performance, production contracts and price discovery in agricultural commodity markets. In developing countries, his interests include studying women’s empowerment and, relatedly, decisions regarding household public goods such as indoor air pollution and children’s education. He also has expertise in choice modelling and conducting quantitative studies on individuals’ behavioural responses to climate change.
